End links are an area it seems are commonly chintzed out on. I've busted both OEM and aftermarket ones on my 6 as well.
As a former Contour owner, what type did you have? There are days I still miss my E0 1998 SVT.

I had a 95 base Contour LX(I believe). 2.0L, 5spd, red exterior with red interior. Only options from factory were a tape player and engine block heater. Was part of the CEG back in the day and went on a couple rides and grill outs back in early 2000s(02-03ish).

In 1995, the GL was the base contour model (which was most of them) and I definitely had my SVT back in those days and was quite active in trying to make events. I went by the handle svtcarboy back then.

Ah yes, the GL. This is true. My handle has always been the same. Was your E0, silver with the blue interior and E1 wheels by chance?

Nope... It was an E0 Toreador Red with a midnight interior and crosslace Moda Sport (think BBS-style) wheels. I used the stock E0 wheels in the winter. My current handle on CEG is the same as here... changed it after I sold the Contour.
