Anyone else have any suggestions for options for the AR that are more of a buy once/cry once situation?

A self-lubricating nickel-boron BCG would be nice.

Get a red dot / HWS optic by Aimpoint or EOTech.

Consider a weapon-light for home defense. You don't have to break the bank on this one, check out Fenix TK22 and rail adapter.

I ended up following the Picklz lead and ordered up a Primary Arms 30mm Red Dot, magnifier, and swing out mount as well. Price wise, I couldn't make a good argument not to do it that way.

ok, Ruger 22/45 or M&P 22?
Methinks you ought to get a .22 handgun clone of a full-size, so if you wanted to get a M&P 9mm someday you'd have a cheap practice option with the M&P 22. Same story with a 1911. Picklz has a sweet .22 sig 1911 in the above pic, that would be a really nice compliment to a full size .45 1911.

I plan to do a lot of plinking when at my parents place and mag loading is actually factoring into my decision making. the 22/45 gets great reviews and there is a slide loader that gets good reviews and works.

LOL that's awesome that it comes in a wooden crate like that, mind if I ask where/how much that guy was? I need to check that thing out / maybe shoot it at some point!

And my storage finally showed up a week or two ago! Guard cat sold separately.

I'll take a pic of it put together here in a bit. I've been eyeing it for some time and they had them in stock at Bill's so I was able to look at in in person, feel it out, and see the quality. Honestly, it's what I look for in a .22lr, it's built very well, and in both visual specs and weight, it seems to be very similar to the original. This is a gun I'll mount on the wall in the next house (taking out the firing goodies of course).

I paid the MSRP at bills of $599, and you can find them less on the web ($539 is the cheapest I've found from a place I'd actually order from online) but Bill's is actually the better deal when you think of the FFL, Shipping with the crate, and Bill's gives you the $45 value range pass with gun rental. Plus at Bills you can handle it to make sure it's what you want. You can feel the plastic magazine, and it's actually pretty solid.

hat's a good write up on it and there are several good youtube videos on it. Some compare to an original STG 44 which is way cool. On FB I posted about it and Polish and Josh have both chimed in about doing an Oakdale trip so we can break out this and the ARs! :) Hit up that thread on FB!

I'll be in the basement, with water, food, and plenty of ammo. Likely watching re-runs of saved by the bell and the golden girls by VHS.
