Lets talk about Pads...

That is a great kit Matt. I would have gotten that if i had not had a hook and loop backingplate and pads already.

Well, shoot. And here I was expecting advice on which brand is better for my "heavy days" Hehe...

That looks like a pretty nice kit at a decent price, plus it's Nate-approved! That may have to find its way into my shopping basket once I get my hands on a buffer.

Consider the Klasse All-in-one if you're gonna place an order. The stuff rocks and one bottle will last years if you only use it on your car.

Lets talk about cleaning the pads....

Machine wash? Hand wash? Just spray with water?

To be honest with you i wouldnt get those foam pads, but go with these ones.

Just because with the completely flat ones if you happen to get a rock or anything in them it will just stay there and make a nice effect in your clear coat :(. But if your not worried about that its totally up to you.

At my job i use the waffle ones similar to the wave pads.

Personally... I'd go with the Lake Country pads. I've used them for a few years now, and they always do a great job!

I use a 3M Perfect-It Plus Rounded Edge Foam Compounding Pad with 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound to get all the swirls and scratches out of the paint. Then follow that with a Lake Country Curved Edge pad and 3M Perfect-It III Machine Glaze to get the shine back. I almost always use S100 for a final wax.

Attached are 2 pics of my Mazda3, which I just did today actually; and my old car 99 Grand Prix.

Yeah it does look stellar. Where did you snag the 3m pads?

Boy, this gets expensive when you add the pads to the 7424. Good lookin on the last link Nate, looks like the cheapest option so that will be my option :D.

P.S. what exactly is the stock pad that comes with the 7424 good for?

I actually ended up going with that last kit Nate linked @ Autogeek along with a few extra pads, so far I've been happy with the results.

Think of it this way. Spend $200 for the PC and necessary supplies, learn how to detail, and keep your cars immaculate for the rest of your life...

Or spend $200 for someone else to detail your car once. And they still might not do that great of a job.

Yea, I am looking at it that way. 1 detail by a shop or details for life by me for the same price, easy descision. If I like doing this I will even do some family members cars because I know they need it bad.

Ok, more questions here. I am going over this looking for the best deal and it seems that buying the pads induvidually is the best deal. Specificaly the ccs pads in the last link that Nate provided. The CCS pads seem to be color coated in yellow, orange, white and black Going from roughest to finest. Now by looking at SilverMS3s stickyed thread he and most others used a two step polish and then a wax. So it makes sense to me to buy two pads no? What two pads would be the best then? I am thinking orange and black maybe? Or maybe yellow orange and black using the yellow because I have some deeper scrtches right now? Thoughts?

This is more Nate's expertise, but here's what I used.

I used a orange light cutting pad with my swirl remover, a blue polishing pad with my glaze, and another blue polishing pad with the wax.

You'll need a fresh pad for each step, so I'd recommend a couple of each. Otherwise, you can clean them between steps, but I found it much easier to have extra pads.

But mine aren't CCS pads, so I can't advise on those.
